Frequently Asked Questions
What is sourdough bread?
Sourdough is a method of leavening bread. Most breads use commercial yeast to rise the bread, however sourdough doesn’t. Instead it uses a “starter” of fermented flour and water to raise bread.
What is your sourdough fermentation process like?
My sourdough goes through a bulk fermentation process of 9-12 hours and then a cold fermentation of 12 hours.
Is your sourdough suitable with gluten sensitivity?
Sourdough bread is not gluten-free but can be thought of as low-gluten. The fermentation process reduces the amount of gluten in the flour, making it easier to digest.
How do I store my bread?
If your sourdough lasts more than the first sitting, the best place to store it is on the counter. There are a few ways to store your bread. Place the cut side down on a cutting board, the crust creates a natural barrier keeping the moisture in. Store in a bread bag, or cover with a tea towel. Refrain from putting in a plastic bag as this will make the bread too soft and refrain from putting in the fridge as it will make the bread stale faster.
